Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

In 1960, The Union Mission Ministries, under the leadership of Rev. Ted Bashford, purchased a 54 acre farm in rural Virginia Beach. Rev. Bashford had a dream of helping children in need. That dream was fulfilled in 1965 with the founding of
Reverend John Gray, the Superintendent of the Union Mission, grew up at Hope Haven.
Hope Haven Children's Home, a home for children from distressed family situations. While the children of Hope Haven come from diverse backgrounds and situations, they share one thing in common: the need for a secure, loving, Christian home.

At Hope Haven, children are brought up by devoted Christian "Houseparents" who provide family structure and provide for their physical and emotional needs. Hope Haven is one of the few remaining family modeled children's homes in Virginia. Since its founding, over 300 children have come to live at Hope Haven during a time of need. Many Hope Haven alumni have attended college and four have returned to serve on staff with the ministry. Hope Haven does not receive any State or Federal funding but relies solely upon contributions from individuals and organizations.
