Jill GrayJill Gray
Family Shelter Supervisor

Jill was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana and raised in a Bible believing church. She accepted the Lord as her Savior in the third grade. On hearing someone in her church speak about a mission project, she felt the Lord's call on her life to be a Missionary. She attended Taylor University, where her world view was greatly expanded and she had the opportunity to fulfill her call on Mission trips to Costa Rica and Guatemala. This was her first experience working with the poor. She also spent two weeks living on "skid row" in the inner city of Chicago, where she says, “My eyes were opened to the needs of people here in our country.”

Graduating from Taylor with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education, the Lord led Jill to Virginia to teach in a local Christian school. During her first year of teaching she learned there was a Mission in the area. Upon being introduced to the Union Mission Family Shelter, she volunteered twice a week serving meals and teaching Bible studies for a year. Three years later she was introduced to John Gray who was returning from Seminary to work at the Mission in full time service. They dated for two years and were married in 1993. She says, “It had always been my desire to marry someone in full-time ministry where we could serve the Lord together. It was exciting to see that I already had experience and a desire to serve where John already was.”

Jill has been a part of the ministry for over 10 years and is currently serving as the Family Shelter Supervisor, the Ladies Auxiliary Coordinator, the Craft Show Coordinator and is involved in various other projects in the ministry. She and John have been blessed with two children, Abigail, and Joshua.
