Nurturing Children, Strengthening Families

Hope Haven is The Union Mission’s beautiful, wooded, 54-acre campus in rural Virginia Beach. The property is the host site for several outreach ministries to the Hampton Roads community. Each is designed to nurture children and strengthen families.

Hope Haven is located at 3000 North Landing Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23456. The office phone number is (757) 427-1500. To learn more, see the Hope Haven website.

Camp Hope Haven is The Union Mission’s nondenominational Christian summer camp. Since 1960, our community outreach ministry has welcomed children and young teens from across Hampton Roads to experience the love of Jesus in a safe, fun-filled, Christian environment. Activities like nature classes, pony rides, chapels, swimming, arts and crafts, and creative contests help campers enjoy themselves while learning more about God’s creation and His Word, the Bible. Many of the boys and girls who attend Camp Hope Haven discover hope, purpose, and a lifelong relationship with the Lord.

But many children come from families that cannot afford to send them to a week of camp.

Sponsorships from friends like you make it possible for these children to enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime. Be part of a life-changing experience!

Switchback is a monthly event where staff from Camp Hope Haven, previous teen campers, and their friends (age 15 and up) “Encounter Christ / Encounter Community.” Together they study the Word of God, pray, build each other up, and have fun. These evenings blend teaching, singing, and prayer with games, contests, and lots of tasty food. The goal is to keep the Switchback participants connected throughout the school year so that when summer returns, they carry their Christ-centered community into their work at Camp Hope Haven.

Parenting a child with special needs can be challenging and complicated. As moms and dad sacrifice their sleep, social lives, self-care, and so much more to care for their children, they often end up feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and isolated.

That’s where Recharge Respite Care makes a difference. At each event, we welcome children and teens with special needs, along with their siblings, for a day camp experience. The hours are filled with games, crafts, toys, an inflatable slide, farm animals, sensory activities, and Bible stories. Each special-needs child is paired with a buddy to ensure that they will receive specific attention and have a fun-filled day designed to celebrate their personality! Parents have the opportunity to spend their time as they like—a respite to recharge.

Hope Haven Children’s Home provides a 24/7, loving Christian home for children from troubled families. It’s one of the few remaining family-modeled children’s homes in Virginia, with caring Christian house parents who minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the children in their care. Those who come to live at Hope Haven Children’s Home are not court-mandated to do so, and since its founding, more than 350 children have found stability and peace in their time of need. In fact, several former Children’s Home kids currently serve on The Union Mission Ministries staff.
